Man killed while attempting to clean roadway by driver charged with DUI in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, KY – A Georgetown man was killed Monday night when he was struck by a car while trying to clear debris from the road, WKYT reports.

The fatality victim, 28-year-old Jacob Charles, had pulled his vehicle over on Champion Way near I-75, between Lexus Way and This Way Home Drive. He was struck by a passing car while in the process of using a broom he had retrieved from his vehicle to clear part of the roadway.

Charles was pronounced dead after being hospitalized in Georgetown.

Police have charged the driver, 50-year-old Charleston resident Teresa Elam, with DUI and driving without a license.
