Narrative
CHRISTIAN CO., KY – A driver died, and three passengers, including two children, were injured Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash in east-central Christian County.
The accident happened around 4:50 p.m. on the Jefferson Davis Highway, or US-68, near Vaughns Grove Little River Road, which is just east of Hopkinsville and north of Pembroke.
Police say that the 21-year-old driver of a 2005 Ford Explorer was speeding when she lost control of the SUV, causing it to overturn multiple times on the highway.
The force of the collision threw the unrestrained driver from the vehicle, and she died after transport to a local hospital. Authorities identified her as Laqway Matthews.
Medics airlifted two unrestrained children, an 8-year-old and a 3-year-old, to an area hospital with injuries of unknown severity.
An adult passenger also went to the hospital.
A full investigation is underway.
