     Narrative

WHITLEY COUNTY, KY – Three children and a 25-year-old woman were hospitalized, and a 2-year-old child died after their GEO tracker was hit by an impaired driver on I-75 Friday.

This collision happened around 1 a.m. when the driver of a Ford Edge hit the GEO tracker, leading the 2-year-old child to be thrown from the vehicle and then succumbed to fatal wounds.

The three children from the GEO Tracker were transported via an ambulance to a hospital for non-life-threatening wounds, while the driver, 25-year-old Alexis Brianna Flores, was airlifted to a hospital for treatment of serious wounds.

Prior to getting transported to a medical facility via a helicopter, Flores had to be extricated from her vehicle. It is not immediately clear if the 2-year-old child was in a car seat or booster.

There were two occupants inside the Ford Edge, both of whom were identified as 22-year-old Jayna Ann Vorwerk of Chandler, Arizona, and  33-year-old Matthew P. Croley of Williamsburg.

Officials did not say if it was Vorwerk who operated the vehicle or if it was Croley. Although police did say, they charged the two for “murder, assault, wanton endangerment, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence.”

An investigation was launched. No other details are available at this time.
